Abstract
1371427 Gas-fuelled lighters FLAMAGAS SA 17 April 1972 [11 Dec 1971] 17535/72 Heading F4F A gas-fuelled lighter comprises a hollow main body 1, Fig. 7, forming a fuel reservoir 2, a lower end of the body 1 having a stopper 32 friction-welded thereto and provided with a fuel-refill valve 80, 81, a pocket in the upper end of the body 1 containing a fuel-release valve which is operable by a lever 55 urged by a spring 65 to close the release valve, a lever stop 10 preventing over-travel of lever 55, and an ignition mechanism 93, 95 removably located in a recess in the exterior of body 1 adjacent the release valve. The body 1 is of transparent or translucent plastics material. The refill valve comprises a valve member 80 having a grooved upper part 81 and urged by a spring 79 to close the valve by exerting pressure on a sealing gasket 86, the valve being opened by urging a rod part 84 of member 80 upwards. Liquifiedgas fuel in reservoir 2 passes via a wick 72 through groove 69 in a member 66 to the gasrelease valve which comprises a burner tube 43 movable in a cylindrical part 38 sealed in said pocket by an 0-ring 49 and compressing a foamed polyurethane disc 71, members 44, 45 allowing adjustment of the compression of disc 71 to vary the flame size. The gas-release valve is opened by moving tube 43 upwards by a lever 55 engaging in a groove in tube 43 and urged by a leaf spring 65 to the closed position in which tube 43 acts on a resilient sealing member 41. A hollow wedge-shaped projection 10 on body 1 acts as said lever-stop, the lever 55 being pivoted between two upward projections (17), 16, Fig. 2 (not shown) and Fig. 1, on the top of body 1. Projections 16, (17) have vertical guide grooves leading to recesses 28 in which inward projections on a removable top cap 29, Fig. 1, normally engage. The igniter comprises a cylindrical member 87 having a projecting rib (9a), Fig. 12 (not shown), locating in a groove in said recess. Member 87 houses a spring 94 urging a flint 93 against a knurled rotatable sparkproducing wheel 95.
