Abstract
1374451 Injection moulding footwear BRITISH BATA SHOE CO Ltd 20 Dec 1971 [17 May 1971] 59136/71 Heading B5A Non-uniform shrinkage of a thermoplastic shoe sole element moulded in a mould 1, 2 having a mould insert 5, is prevented by means of at least one expansion cavity 9 in the insert 5, the cavity being shaped to trap a pocket of air (29) during the injection operation. The shoe sole element may be a sole, a heel or a sole and heel combination. As shown, the insert 5 is a heel insert having four legs 7 extending into a heel cavity 4, and each leg has at least one cavity 9 formed therein. Three ejector rods 11, 12, 13 are provided for ejecting the moulded element, the rod 11 being biased upwardly by a spring 15 and the rods 12, 13 being pneumatically operated (see Fig. 4, not shown).
