Abstract

1377814 Backspacing cassette tapes M E BACHMANN 27 March 1972 [5 April 1971] 14344/72 Heading G5R A transcription control device 33 fits on to a cassette 16 in a recorder 15 and allows a treadle 114 to be operated to backspace a tape in the cassette. In operation, pressing the treadle causes a lever to be first rooked from position 111 to 1111, and then to be moved bodily to 11111; the lever is coupled by cable 103 to a slide 48 so that simultaneously the slide moves slightly to the left i.e. from the Fig. 3 position to that of Fig. 4 (not shown), and then substantially to the right i.e. to the Fig. 5 position (not shown). In the Fig. 3 (STOP) position, a ramp 49 (Fig. 9) on slide 48 forces a spring mounted socket 52 downwards to cause a spring loaded reel drive spindle 28 to be moved out of engagement with (and thus rendered unable to drive) a reel hub 26. In moving left to the Fig. 4 (PLAY) position, the ramp 49 rides off the top of socket 52 and allows it to be elevated by spring 55, thereby engaging spindle 28 once more with hub 26 and so allowing the normal recorder controls to be operated. In moving right to the Fig. 5 position, the socket is again lowered to disengage spindle 28, but in addition a toothed rack 63 on slide 48 rotates a wheel 60 to cause the reel hub for the tape supply reel to be forced to rotate a fixed amount in the rewind i.e. backspace direction. A further toothed rack 67 causes a further such backspacing when the treadle is released to return to the Fig. 3 position. An arm 88 allows a pinch roller 24 to be engaged/disengaged with a capstan 23, as required.
