Abstract
1377830 Radio tuning arrangements; AMFM reception PHILCO-FORD CORP 10 Aug 1972 [10 Aug 1971] 37349/72 Headings H3Q and H3R [Also in Division G3] In a circuit arrangement comprising a fixed inductor 2 connected in series with a variable inductive element 1 to form a variable inductive voltage divider and an oscillator 3; 12 of which the output is connected to apply alternating voltage to the divider, the oscillator includes a negative feedback circuit 4, 5; 19, 24, 26 fed with the voltage applied across the divider and arranged to render the amplitude of oscillation substantially constant and means is provided for deriving from the potential at the junction between the fixed inductor 2 and the variable inductive element 1 an output signal of which the amplitude is a function of the value of the variable inductive element 1. As shown in Fig. 1 a mechanical tuning control is ganged to AM tuning inductors and to a variable inductor 1. When the radio is switched to operate in the FM band the variable A.C. output voltage from the inductive voltage divider 1, 2 is rectified and filtered at 8, 29, 30, Fig. 2, and is used as a tuning voltage for voltage variable capacitors 9 in the FM tuning circuit of the radio. The inductive voltage divider 1, 2 may form part of the tuned circuit of an oscillator 3 such as a Colpitts oscillator 12. The amplitude of the oscillations produced by the oscillator 3, 12 across the inductors 1, 2 is stabilized against supply voltage and temperature variations by a negative feedback circuit 4, 5 including a rectifier 19 and a D.C. amplifier 24, 26 having a reference voltage provided by a Zener diode 25. A transistor 23 provides the temperature compensation. The single variable inductor could be in the form of a bank of pushbutton selected inductors.
