1377992 Magnetically-actuated ball-mills; electromagnetic mixing NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATELSKY I KONSTRUKTORSKOTEKHNOLOGICHESKY INSTITUT EMALIROVANNOGO KHIMICHESKOGO OBORUDOVANIA 11 Nov 1971 [17 May 1971] 52372/71 Headings B1C and B2A [Also in Divisions Cl and C3] Particulate materials, e.g. kaolin, chalk or thermal black are activated and their surface areas increased, prior to their incorporation in elastomer mixes, by grinding the particles in a vessel using non-equiaxial ferromagnetic bodies rotated by an electrically induced rotating magnetic field. The magnetic field preferably has an induction of at least 0.08 Tesla, e.g. 0.15. The metallic bodies may be steel, iron or Ni. The particles may be modified with dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride or chloroprene latex. The particles may be activated together with plasticizers and softening agents for elastomers. The elastomer may be styrene, nitrile or natural rubber.
