Abstract

1381567 Measuring engine output electrically NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 23 May 1973 [26 May 1972] 24684/73 Heading G1N The output or torque of an I.C. engine is determined by providing a signal representing a proportional constant K of the engine from analogue signals representing the engine speed n and the intake manifold vacuum p, and multiplying this signal by a signal representing the weight of intake air Wa to provide an input signal dependent upon engine output or torque. As shown, the signal representing the constant K is computed by a function generator 3, Figs. 4-6 (not shown), responsive to the engine speed signal to provide one component K’ of the constant K a function generator 4, Figs. 7-9 (not shown), responsive to the intake vacuum signal to provide the other component K” and a summing device 5. The intake air signal is computed from signals representing engine speed, intake air vacuum, and intake mixture temperature. The graphs of Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), show how K varies with engine speed and intake vacuum.
