Abstract
1383380 Protective arrangements WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 21 Feb 1972 [15 March 1971] 7862/72 Heading H2K An electronic overload protective arrangement comprises means 10 to produce a first signal X proportional to the magnitude of the current in a protected conductor, means 18 to sum the signal X with a reference second signal C of opposite sign to the signal X and of a magnitude proportional to the steady-state current capability of the conductor to produce a difference signal (X – C) and means 20 to integrate the difference signal with time to produce an integrated signal 1/A(X – C)T. Means 22 are provided to algebraically sum a reference third signal B of opposite sign to the first signal and of a magnitude proportional to the maximum continuous current handling capability of the conductor, the integrated signal and the first signal, and means 26 respond to the algebraic sum 1/A(X – C)T + X – B to provide a trip signal when the sum is zero or of the same sign as the first signal. Fig. 2 (not shown) illustrates a solid state circuit in which the means 14, 20 and 26 are operational amplifiers and the trip signal is applied to the control circuit of a static power switch circuit.
