Abstract
1383590 Colour television RCA CORPORATION 11 May 1972 22031/72 Heading H4F Automatic registration of two pick-up tubes of a colour television camera is effected by deriving a deflection control signal for one of the tubes from an indicator signal denoting the time relationship of corresponding edge video signals representing a sharp transition between light and dark areas in the televised scene. As shown in Fig. 3, edge video signals 34 and 35 from the green and red (or blue) pick-up tubes are processed via 1À46 Ás delays 37, 41 and 47, 0À73 Ás delay 44, amplifier 38 which doubles the edge signal amplitude and reverses its polarity, and polarity reversers 45 and 54 to thereby derive a predominantly positive polarity wave 58 and a predominantly negative polarity wave 53 which are supplied to a common output terminal 64 via a negative peak detector 59 and a positive peak detector 62 so as to produce an indicator signal having a polarity that indicates the sense of any time non-coincidence of the red and green edge video signals and an amplitude representative of the magnitude of any time non-coincideuce. This indicator signal is supplied to a positive comparator 65 and a negative comparator 66, Fig. 4, which are also supplied with respective positive and negative comparison voltages from a voltage divider 67. If the indicator signal is greater or less than the respective comparison voltages NAND gates 68 or 69 are activated to pass pulses from a generator 71 to the “up” or “down” control terminals respectively of a counter 72 from which the deflection control signal for the red (or blue) pickup tube is derived. The offsetting of the action of comparators 65 and 66 by the different comparison voltages produces a small dead zone in which small indicator signals produce no change of the deflection control signal. In a second embodiment, Fig. 8, the predominantly positive and negative polarity waves 89 and 95 are derived from the red and green edge video signals 35a and 34a by means of integrators 75, 76, 78, 82, 83 and 85, differentiators 77, 79 and 84 and polarity inverter 91. These signals are then supplied via positive and negative peak detectors 96 and 99 to produce at common output terminal 64 the indicator signal which is supplied to the circuit of Fig. 4, to thereby derive the deflection control signal. An alternate or auxiliary indicator signal may be provided at terminal 64a via negative and positive peak detectors 97 and 98. The image areas of the pick-up tubes are effectively divided into nine zones, the deflection control signal derived from the central zone V, Fig. 1, in response to gated video signals from this zone, is used to effect horizontal and vertical centering of the raster scans; from zones IV and VI horizontal size (width), linearity and raster skew correction; and from zones II and VIII vertical size (height) and linearity correction.
