Abstract
1383701 Feeding and folding sheets D MANTOVANI 14 Feb 1972 [23 Feb 1971] 6729/72 Heading B8R Feeding sheets.-Sheets F, Fig. 1, are fed alternately from two magazines 3, 3a to a buckling folder. Sheets in the magazine 3 rest on edge on a base plate 17 and are pressed against a plate 4 by a spring-urged cylinder 22, a side guide and the cylinder 22 being adjustable according to sheet size. Each sheet is separated from the pile by a circular sector-section oscillating suction device 45 and introduced between rollers 46, 47, whereupon it is fed through a channel 56, between rollers 65, 66 and through a second channel 67 and an oblique slot 114, Fig. 9, in a plate 113 to the folder. Sheets in the magazine 3a are separated similarly and fed through a single channel 68. The plate 17 is formed with a comb at its front edge, below which is fixed a plate 36, Fig. 10, having a plurality of nozzles 37 for blowing air for riffling the sheets, and pointed screws 38 to pass between the sheets and prevent double feed. Folding sheets.-A buckling folder comprises a plurality of rollers arranged in vertical planes in two groups 69, 70, 71, 72, 77 and 73, 74, 75, 78, Fig. 9, and tangential to each other. Between rollers 70, 71; 71, 72; 73, 74 are arranged pairs of frames as 119, 120 defining a gap between them in which is an adjustable stop as 123, while concave-ended plates 113, 132, 138, 140 are arranged between the other pairs of rollers. In operation, sheets arrive from magazine 3a at rollers 69, 73 or from magazine 3 at rollers 70, 73, and are then directed by beak portions as 126 of the frames into the gaps against the stops to be buckle-folded into the next pair of rollers, while being guided round the rollers by the plates, the folded sheets being removed by conveyers 78, 79. The rollers are mounted on resiliently mounted arms to be pressed together and rotate at twice the speed of the sheet feed rollers.
