Abstract

1389610 Acoustic surface wave devices MARCONI CO Ltd 31 Aug 1973 [11 Oct 1972] 46752/72 Heading H3U An acoustic surface wave device, e.g. a delay line or a frequency or pulse compression filter, comprises a body 10 of piezoeleetrio material with transducers on its surface 18, the body forming one wall of a gas-tight enclosure around the transducers. As shown the transducers are of comb form with bus-bars 20, 21 extending outside the enclosure for connection, and the enclosure is evacuated or filled with an inert gas. The enclosure side walls 14 are of epoxy resin or polyethylene and cover 12 is of the same material as the body 10, e.g. quartz, to minimize thermal expansion problems. The inner surface 16 of the cover has a conductive coating to confine the magnetic field and reduce crosstalk. The cover overhangs the walls 14 (Fig. 3, not shown) so that connection may be made to the coating.
