Abstract

1392623 Optical data reader ADDRESSOGRAPH MULTIGRAPH CORP 8 June 1972 [9 June 1971] 26906/72 Heading G4M An optical data reader for use with different codes has a card magazine advancing cards 12 to a front position then moving them along a track 18 and a read head (Fig. 1, not shown), positioned across the track. The read head has light fibres 60 uniformly distributed across the track to supply light from a lamp to a card and two sets of inclined light fibres 80, 82 feeding reflected light to movable light sensors fibres 80, 82 terminate in an extension 86, 90 which is received in a slot in a sensor carrier 104 held in position by a screw 106. The carrier may have a replaceable insert carrying sensors spaced according to the data code or may have integral light guides and sensors (Fig. 11, not shown), if the codes are closer together than the sensors. The light fibres have small diameter so that each sensor 124, 126 receives light from a plurality of fibres (Fig. 8). Each card may carry light and dark markings, may be punched or may carry printed “l”s.
