Abstract
1402261 Growing cabinets PROTAG (MECHANICS) Ltd 10 July 1972 [17 July 1971] 33655/71 Heading A1E A portable growing cabinet formed from galvanised steel comprises a lower germination chamber 10 and an upper growing chamber 11 each having a pair of doors 19. Upper and lower trays 16, 17 are covered with layers 21 of vermiculite in which heater cables 23, 23a are disposed, and on which seed trays 35 are placed. Adjustable thermostats 25, 25a control the heaters 23, 23a, and a further thermostat 34 controls a fan 33 in the top 14 of the growing chamber to prevent overheating by thirteen fluorescent lighting tubes operated by a time switch 37 and mounted under the top 14. The inside faces of the growing chamber 11 are covered with hessian-backed aluminium foil, and those of the germinating chamber 10 are painted black. Humidity is maintained near saturation in the chambers by maintaining water at a constant level beneath the top of the vermiculite, and growing chamber 11 may have sprays. The electrical equipment may be manually controlled from a switch panel 38, and the lighting may be restricted to 7 tubes. The humidity may be controlled by a hygrostat regulating the water supply.
