Abstract
1402428 Hypodermic syringes PFIZER LTD 8 May 1973 [12 May 1972] 22522/72 Heading A5R A hypodermic syringe comprises a cylinder assembly 10 and a piston assembly 11, relatively slidable against the action of a spring 12, one assembly having a hand-grip 43 and a socket 19 to receive the neck of a fluid-container 13, the cap of which is pierceable by a hollow tapping needle 26 whereby fluid can flow through a passage 28 into the space between the piston 39 and one end of the cylinder 17, and thence, via a non-return valve 37, into the needle 14, and the other assembly carrying the needle 14 and providing a passage 40, from the piston to the needle, in which is located the valve 37, this assembly also carrying a finger-piece or pieces 44, by which, in co-operation with the hand-grip, the two assemblies may be manually moved relatively to one another to inject the fluid. The needle 14 is integral with a collar which is secured to the piston assembly by a sleeve 35a. The socket 19 is co-axial with a larger socket 18 which receives the container body and both sockets are rearwardly inclined to the vertical at an angle of 30‹. The socket 19 is split to provide fingers 21 resiliently gripping the container-neck and the socket 18 has a longitudinal slit 32 through which the level of the container-contents can be observed. The sockets and hand-grip 43 are ‘moulded integrally with a body 15 which contains also a passage 30 leading to atmosphere, through a non-return valve 31, and having a venting needle 27 which pierces the containercap. In another embodiment (Fig 2, not shown) the piston is stationary on the hand-grip assembly, and the relatively-movable cylinder assembly carries the finger-piece and needle.
