Abstract
1414740 Pivot pin assemblies; shovelling machines; clamping devices CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 12 Dec 1973 [26 Dec 1972] 57580/73 Headings E1F, E2B and E2F In a wheeled loader tractor 10, a hinge pin assembly 18 is provided between a mounting plate 14 mounted on a bucket 12 and a load arm 16, the hinge pin assembly being provided with a generally cylindrical portion fitted within a bore 22 in the load arm 16 and two end tapered portions 24 over which is disposed a cup-shaped collar 32 located within a central bore 42 in the bifurcated arms 26 and 28 of the mounting plate 14. The collar has a plurality of axially disposed slots 40 for facilitating wedging of the pin end 24 within the bore 42. A threaded bolt 44 passing through a threaded clearance opening 38 in the end of each collar 32 engages a screw-threaded bore 30 in the tapered portion 24 at each end of the pin 20 and the head end of each bolt 44 serves to draw the collar 32 into wedged engagement. Removal of the hinge pin assembly is achieved by removing the first bolt 44 and inserting a second bolt 46 (Fig. 3) when threadingly engaged with end wall opening 38. By rotating and advancing the bolt 48 the collar 32 is withdrawn out of wedged engagement. In an alternative arangement (Fig. 3, not shown) the end of the bolt 44 is adapted to bear upon a pin (48) provided in an opening in the tapered portion 24. In a further embodiment (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown) an annular washer (52) is placed on the bolt 44 prior to assembly and the washer is of such dimensions to allow the washer to drop to a position whereby the bolt is adapted to bear against the washer to provide a supporting surface for a second bolt (46) which is screwed into the threaded opening 38 in the end wall portion 36 of the collar 32 to withdraw the latter.
