Abstract

1420913 Electrolytic oxygen supply PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 13 March 1974 [28 March 1973] 11168/74 Heading C7B [Also in Division G1] Apparatus for measuring and supplying a controlled quantity of oxygen uses a solid electrolyte (ZrO 2 ) partition 1 interrupted by a layer 10 of a substance with a negligibly small oxygen ions conductivity which separates a measuring electrode 3 from a generating electrode 4; electrode 2 inside the partition being common to both cells. The device is maintained in an oven 5. The interrupting layer 10 may be of a melting ceramic e.g. Al 2 O 3 18 wt per cent, SiO 2 40À5 wt per cent and CaO 41À5 wt per cent, glass, glass ceramic, a metal e.g. platinum or, as shown a platinum layer separated from the zirconium dioxide 1, by the melting ceramic; the platinum serving as a leadout from the inner electrode 2. The layer 10 prevents cross talk interference i.e. polarization voltages between ZrO 2 and the sensor electrodes introduced by currents in the ZrO 2 between the generating electrodes.
