Abstract
1432771 Photographic processes. AGFA-GEVAERT 18 June 1973 [26 June 1972] 29915/72 Addition to 1359472 Heading G2C A process for forming a dye image comprises imagewise exposing to heat in the presence of visible light, e.g. up to 20%, a material containing (i) a spiropyran, (ii) an organic halogen (iii) a homo- or co-polymer of N-vinyl carbazole containing at least 20 per cent N.V.C. units and (iv) a heterocyclic nitrogen-containing compound containing the following group or its tautomer. The material may also contain an amide or ureido compound of formula R, CONHR 2 wherein R 1 is alkyl, aryl or heterocyclic, -NHR 3 or NR 3 R 4 group in which R 3 and R 4 are alkyl or aryl and R2 is H or alkyl, aryl or heterocyclic group. In the examples mercaptobenzothiazole and polyvinyl carbazole are used as components (iii) and (iv). The dye image may be stabilized by heating and/or applying a solvent to remove the organic halogen or applying a mineral oil at 145 to 165C and removing any residual oil films. Specification 1359472 discloses a process for forming dye images wherein a material containing (i) and (ii) above and a sensitizer such as (iv) and/or (iii) above is uniformly exposed to U.V. and/or visible and imagewise exposed to visible or infrared.
