1433179 Degradable styrene polymer compositions PRINCETON POLYMER LABORATORIES Inc 29 June 1973 [6 July 1972] 45021/75 Divided out of 1433178 Heading C3P Degradable styrene polymer compositions comprise as prodegradant (P) an organic carboxylic acid salt or chelate of zirconium or titanium and (S) (a) a benzoyl compound wherein R 1 -R 5 are H, halogen or alkyl, alkoxy, aryl or aryloxy groups, optionally substituted by halogen, alkyl, aryl, alkoxy or aryloxy, and R 6 is alkyl, alkoxy, aralkyl, aryl, aryloxy, aroyl or pyridyl, optionally substituted by halogen, alkyl, aryl, alkoxy or aryloxy, or (b) a benzotriazole compound wherein R 11 -R 14 are H, halogen, alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, aralkyl, aroyl or aroyloxy. Preferably the (S) component is present in larger amount than the (P) component. Examples describe compositions of polystyrene with (P) zirconium II neodecanoate or titanium IV pentanedione chelate and (S) o-dibenzoyl benzene, 4-ethoxybenzophenone, 4-chlorobenzophenone or 2- phenylacetophenone.
