Abstract
1439737 Two-part couplings GENERAL SIGNAL CORP 10 Oct 1974 [9 Nov 1973] 43996/74 Heading H2E A connector providing electric and pneumatic coupling on a train brake pipe comprises a first-contact 17 mounted on a brake pipe cock 11, an insulating hose 18 having a second contact 22 on one end-this end being connectible to the cock resulting in connection between the first and second contacts, and a conductor 21 extending from the second contact 22 to a similar conductive pneumatic coupler (23) on the other end of the hose 18. The first contact 17 is an annular disc set in a cast resin insulator 69 which also secures a function box 15 to the cock; the junction box houses a terminal bolt 58 which connects an incoming conductor 50 to a conductor 63 which is connected at 68 to the contact 17. The second contact 22 also comprises an annular disc set in a resin block 70 which is resiliently and reciprocally mounted via springs 81, 82, 83 and guide pins 84, 85, 86 to a flange 72 of an adaptor 20 which screws into the cock at one end and carries the hose 18 at its other end. In an alternative embodiment (Figs. 6-8) the resin block (70) springs 81-83 and pins 84-86 are replaced on elastomeric compressible annular member (90) having a recessed surface carrying the contact (22) and an opposite surface formed with voids (92) to enhance compressibility as the adapter (20) is screwed into the cock bringing the contacts (17, 22) together.
