Abstract
1439926 Aritiskid braking systems LUCAS ELECTRICAL Ltd 14 June 1973 [14 July 1972] 32981/72 Heading F2F A vehicle antiskid braking system comprises means for providing a signal representing the rotational deceleration of a vehicle wheel, brake control means responsive to said signal for releasing the brakes when the signal exceeds a predetermined value, the electrical power for the anti-skid control being derived from a battery on the vehicle via switching means and the control including a plurality of fault sensing means each operable when a respective appropriate fault occurs in the system to operate said switching means and so disconnect the power supply so that the system reverts to normal braking, at least one of said fault sensing means operating said switching means immediately following an appropriate fault and at least one other of said fault sensing means operating the switching means after a delay following an appropriate fault. The switching means is a self-hold arrangement so that when a fault has occurred the antiskid control cannot operate until the vehicle ignition switch has been opened and then closed again. The system also includes a testing circuit which checks the operation of the antiskid control and operates the switching means if the test indicates a fault. If an earth fault occurs on a solenoid controlling a modulator 26, 27, 28 the switching means is operated after a delay if the brakes are not applied. The modulator is operated under the control of the solenoid by a separate hydraulic circuit, any failure in this circuit being monitored and operating the switching means after a delay when the brakes are not applied.
