Abstract
145,686. Beurdeley. A. March 7, 1919, [Convention date]. Addition to 145,646. Limbs, artificial. – Details in connexion with the mounting and adjusting of the thigh-piece and hip support of the artifieial leg described in the parent Specification are modified as follows : (1) The telescoping members 5, 7 for adjusting the length of the thigh straps are fixed after adjustment by pivoted spring pawls 6 engaging teeth in the member 5. (2) The hip support comprises an adjustable band passing round the extreme upper end of the thigh through loops 1 mounted on each thigh support. Each loop acts on compression springs 2 through the medium of pistons 2<1>. The springs are enclosed in casings pivoted at 4 to the members 5. In operation, the casings 3 are inclined downwardly so that the pull on the strap stretches the springs. The thigh band 10 is made detachable from the metal side straps by forming it with pockets 10<1> surrounding the straps. Screw-and-nut fastenings 8 secure the straps to the pockets, but do not penetrate to the main surface of the band.
