Abstract
1456872 Ultrasonic transducers FUJIKURA CABLE WORKS Ltd NIHON TOKUSHU TOGYO KK and SEIDENSHA ELECTRONICS CO Ltd 11 April 1974 [13 April 1973(2)] 16195/74 Heading H4J In an apparatus for feeding ultrasonic waves to the inner region of a container, e.g. for curing the insulating material on an electric wire or cable passing through a pipe in whose wall 1, a transducer assembly is mounted, the transducer 5 is mounted on an annular resonator 2 and the resonator is mounted in a tubular member 1 by an annular member 3 which has line contact with the resonator at a nodal point of the acoustic waves in the resonator. In one embodiment line contact is provided by a corrugated bellows element (29), Fig. 8 (not shown). As shown in Fig. 6, the transducer comprises a piezoelectric element of barium titanate or lead titanate-zirconate mounted on a resonant coupling member 2 supported in a gap in the pipe by annular, triangular or rhombic section, packing members 3 located in grooves formed in the resonant member 2 at a node of the ultrasonic waves therein. A number of transducer assemblies can be stacked one above the other separated by further packing members 3, Figs. 4 and 7 (not shown). The packing members 3 can be of iron, stainless steel, titanium alloy, aluminium, copper, rubber, ptfe, or asbestos. A further packing member 14, can be mounted coaxially outside the first packing member 3 to define therewith a gap in which cooling liquid 16 can be circulated, the second packing member can be an “0” ring. In alternative forms the transducer can be mounted in the pipe wall utilizing a bellows section (29), Fig. 8 (not shown).
