Abstract
Compounds of the formula III, in which R1 denotes hydrogen or chlorine, or their pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts are obtained by reacting a 2-thiabenzodiazepine of the formula I, preferably in an inert organic solvent, with a reagent of the formula IV, preferably at a temperature between 60 and 120 DEG C. After conventional working up of the compound of the formula II obtained, this is cyclised using a concentrated acid and the compound of the formula III is isolated. If the product is treated with a pharmacologically acceptable acid, the corresponding acid addition salt is obtained. The novel compounds have sedative and tranquillising action and can be administered in compositions which are formulated in a customary pharmacological manner.
