Abstract
1457303 Obtaining haemo-dynamic information R NAKAYAMA 18 March 1974 [30 July 1973] 11908/74 Heading ASK [Also in Division G1] In an apparatus for obtaining haemodynamic information of a blood circulatory system in part of a body, means for measuring the blood pressure 14 are used in conjunction with means for measuring the blood volume change 12 to derive, by means of a computer, values of the maximum and minimum blood pressure; vascular resistance, vascular compliance, inentance, impedance and precapillary and/or post capillary blood flow rate. The volume measuring device may comprise a capsule 18 which may be sealingly installed on a fingertip 16 and a piezo-electric crystal 20 detects the volume change. The output of the piezo-electric crystal is connected to a recotder and a computer 22. The blood pressure measuring device 14 consists of a cuff 24 (to compress part b of the finger), and air squeezing bulb 26, three way stop cocks 36, a mercury manometer 26 and a piezo-electric element 30 (to convert the inside pressure to electric signals). The output of the piezio-electric element 30 is connected via an amplifier 32 to the recorder 22. The pressure in the cuff is pumped up until blood flow ceases then the pressure is allowed to decrease and measurements are made automatically. The electric outputs may be fed via analogue to digital converters to the computer for processing. The description discloses and derives the various equations necessary for determining the associated parameters of the blood flow, and it explains the sequence of measurements that the computer can effect.
