Abstract
1459993 Rotary IC engines GENERAL MOTORS CORP 6 Aug 1975 [16 Aug 1974] 32857/75 Heading F1F [Also in Division F2] A bearing carrier 70 for the central journal 36 of a twin-rotor Wankel engine, Fig. 1, is designed to facilitate assembly of the engine, the carrier 70, Fig. 4, comprising two halves 72, 73 connected by bolts 76, one half 72 having the same curvature as the bore 90 of the intermediate housing 14 in which the carrier is located, the other half 73 being of reduced radius relative to bore 90 to facilitate insertion of the cranked power shaft and bearing carrier 70 into the engine Figs. 6, 7 (not shown), and there being rod dowels 94 extending through the intermediate housing 14 so as to project into blind bores 101 in bearing carrier half 73, these rod dowels being biased.by a spring 104 on the outside of housing 14 so as to resiliently urge half 72 against bore 90. A phase gear 83 is integral with the split bearing carrier 70 and engages with a ring gear on one of the rotors of the engine. (For Figures see next page)
