Abstract
1460074 Check digit calculation ETAB TELTEST RD 14 Jan 1974 [12 Jan 1973] 01651/74 Heading G4A A memory is addressed by keyed-in items of information in a business message (e.g. date, day of week, month, amount, currency) to read out numbers chosen arbitrarily, and an adder accumulates the numbers read from the memory to produce a check number which may be appended to a message before transmission or may be checked against the check number transmitted with a received message, whereby the authenticity of the message can be verified. The look-up table of arbitrary numbers may be entered in the memory from the keyboard or from a magnetic card inserted in the machine, and new cards may be created by copying the contents of the memory into a blank card. Alterations of part of the table in memory or on a card may also be made. Display lamps for entered data, addresses and for indicating a detected parity error are provided. The machine may have security locks for read/write and calculate operations.
