Abstract

1461707 Magnetic separation MANSFELD KOMBINAT WILHELM PIECK VEB 24 July 1974 [25 July 1973] 32728/74 Heading B2J Iron-loaded aluminium scrap is shredded in apparatus 1, 2 to a piece size of preferably 30-80 mm edge length and is then fed to magnetic drum-type separators 3 where the Fe and FeA1 fractions are separated from the main flow, the remaining A1 fraction passing on to a conveyor 4 associated with a sensor 5 which detects any residual iron content in this latter fraction. Those pieces containing iron are deflected from the path of the main flow of the A1 fraction, which is transported by conveyors 8, 9 to collecting bunkers 10, and at least the larger pieces are fed back to the shredding apparatus 1, 2 for recycling. As shown, the iron-containing pieces from conveyor 4 are fed to grading apparatus 6 having a screen size of 30-50 mm, the screenings being fed on to a conveyor 7 to be added to the Al fraction and the screening residue being fed back. The Fe and FeAl fractions leaving the separators 3 may be further sorted by an additional magnetic separator 11. The Al fraction may be further processed by melting.
