Abstract
A sinterable finely divided polyvinyl chloride moulding material is produced by suspension polymerisation of vinyl chloride in aqueous phase by means of an oil-soluble activator in the presence of a suspension stabiliser and of a nonionic wetting agent and removal and drying of the polymer by using an emulsifier. The emulsifier is an emulsifying acid belonging to the class of the alkylarylsulphonic acids having from 3 to 16 carbon atoms in the alkyl group and the alkylsulphonic acids having from 8 to 16 carbon atoms, or a mixture of emulsifying acids belonging to this class, in a total amount of from 0.01 to 0.5% by weight, based on monomeric vinyl chloride, with either the total amount being used in the polymerisation or from 30 to 80% of it being added before and if desired also during the polymerisation and the remaining 70 to 20% being applied to the polymer after it has been separated off. Polyvinyl chloride moulding materials thus obtained are suitable for manufacturing sintered separator plates for electric cells.
