Abstract
1466407 Steam or hot water generators with catalytic burners A BRULFERT 3 Dec 1974 [4 Dec 1973] 52333/74 Heading F4A A steam or hot water generator comprises: a heat insulated casing 2, vertically extending, laterally spaced catalyst panels 1, and a water chamber 7 located between the panels to receive radiant heat from them; an arrangement 3 supplying fuel to each panel which is oxidized in the presence of the catalyst (e.g. platinum, cobalt or ferronickel sponge). The chamber 7 extends between supply and delivery pipes 4, 5 and (as shown in Fig. 2) is linked to end (9, 10) and top (14) chambers-heat conducting ribs are provided on each chamber. Additional water chambers 22, 23 are mounted outside the catalyst panels to receive conducted heat. Two panels are shown but a further pair could be provided on the ends with chambers 9, 10 on the outside of them. The panels could be in the form of two concentric cylinders with a cylindrical chamber 7 between them (Fig. 6, not shown), or in a modified form of this arrangement the panels could be arranged in inner and outer sets arranged in squares which a square section chamber between them (Fig. 5, not shown). A further top chamber can be mounted above chamber 14 heated by flue gases conveyed in pipes through chamber 14 (Figs. 4, 6 not shown), and can be part of a heating circuit including the other chambers while chamber 14 is included in a separate circuit.
