Abstract

1467655 Making sand moulds S LARKIN 26 March 1974 [20 June 1973] 13233/74 Heading B3G A foundry moulding machine comprises at least one pair of mould chambers 22, 32 pivoted together at 48, Fig. 3, and mounted on circular supports 20, 34, Fig. I, rotatably carried on inner and outer fixed circular walls 12, 14 through equispaced work stations. Sand is gravity fed to the chambers at a first station, compressed at the second by forcing pattern carriers 80, 82, Fig. 3, downwardly into the sand by fluid motors 72, 74. Each chamber includes a vertically movable perforated plate 50 or 56 by which air is forced through the sand during compression, and pattern carriers have passages therethrough for air egress; air is supplied by hose 102 connected to hollow pins 52. After withdrawing the pattern carriers, the mould chambers with the same mould halves therein are conveyed to a third station where where mould cores are manually positioned in cavities in the mould half in the outer chamber. At a fourth station the inner chamber 32 is tilted about its pivot 48, inverted and superposed on the outer chamber by means, Fig. 6, not shown, whereupon the mould half in the uppermost chamber is forced into the lower one by a fluid motor engaging the ends of pins 52 of the upper chamber to force plate 56 downwardly. The upper chamber is returned to its initial position and, at a fifth station a fluid motor raises plate 50 of the outer chamber, Fig. 7, not shown, to discharge the assembled mould halves and push them by means (142, 143) onto a conveyer (144). At the next station fluid motors push the plates 50, 56 back to their initial positions before the mould chambers are returned to the first station.
