Abstract

1476573 Measuring rotary unbalance A J MORTENSEN 11 June 1975 [12 June 1974] 25029/75 Heading GIN Apparatus for determining unbalance in a rotating body comprises means for supporting the body for rotation, driving means for rotating the body, transducer means for measuring vibration or corresponding pressure variation caused by unbalance of the body when rotating and for converting vibration so measured, or the pressure variation into electrical signals. Electronic means are provided for evaluating the amplitude and angular position of the unbalance from the electrical signals, the electronic means comprising sampling circuits and an angular position indicating device. The electronic means, in use, in each revolution of the body transmits and indicates a succession of signals, each signal in the revolution corresponding to the unbalance at each of a predetermined number of angular positions, e.g. 100. The apparatus further includes storing means for storing at least a fraction of each signal during a number of revolutions so that an average value for the signal for each predetermined angular position may be evaluated thereby providing a determination of the unbalance of the body. The storing means may be capacitors Fig. 1 (not shown), or accumulating circuits Fig. 2 (not shown). In the case of the latter, these circuits may be fed from an analog to digital converter. The angular position indicating device may comprise a disc Fig. 3 (not shown), or other body of revolution, e.g. a cylinder, which, in use rotates with the rotating body. The disc has a plurality of contact points formed by the intersection of radial lines and concentric circles for determining the angular positions, one of the points acting as a synchronizing point. A device is provided for displaying the indication of the angular position of the angular position indicating device when the body under test is stationary.
