Abstract

1479890 Drill feed control THOMAS RYDER & SON Ltd 10 Oct 1974 [9 Nov 1973] 52107/73 Heading B3C [Also in Division E2] A device for controlling the feed of a drilling unit having a shaft 2 parallel to the drill spindle and movable in translation therewith comprises a body or block 1 lockable to the shaft by means of a pivoted apertured plate 3, biassed into the shaft-gripping locked position by a spring loaded bolt 5. In use in a “peckfeed” drilling machine, the shaft 2, body 1 and spindle are first retracted, block 1 is then stopped by a stationary “reset” stop 13 which releases the device from the shaft due to relative motion of shaft and block. The shaft, spindle and device are then fed forwardly with the device locked due to spring 7, at a fast rate until the face 14 actuates a feed controlling switch (not shown) to slow down the rate. Thereafter nut 11 contacts “stand-off” stop 15 and the device is released and drill feed continues. On retraction in accordance with “peck feed” operation the device moves with the shaft but does not contact stop 13. “Peck feed” continues at the fast rate changing to slow rate controlled as before .
