Abstract
1479911 Rotary positive-displacement fluidmachines TRW Inc 12 Nov 1974 [5 Dec 1973] 48913/74 Heading F1F In sliding-vane positive displacement machine leakage between high and low-pressure inter-vane cavities C4, C1 is minimized by a cylinder 44 pivotally supported on a fixed shoe 48, and held against the rotor periphery 46 by the working-fluid pressure in a contracting cavity C3. The shoe has a nose 48a engaging with a recess 50 in a plate 51 attached to the cylinder and securing a reed-type outlet valve 54. Owing to loss of pressure caused by fibrous strips 57, 60 in the path of the fluid between the valve 54 and an outlet port 20 the pressure in a main outlet chamber 56 is appreciably less than that in the cavity C3, which is thus able to hold the cylinder against the rotor. The strips 57, 60 coalesce oil entrained with the fluid and the oil drains from the strips into a pool P whence it returns to bearings 26, 34 and the vanes 39 through a passageway 68. To facilitate relief of excess pressures in the inter-vane cavities a plate 61 may be held against the cylinder by springs, Fig. 10, (not shown), and the said pressure in the chamber 56. To reduce back-pressure holes 55a may be formed in the cylinder on the upstream side of the outlet valve. An inlet port 19 may be furnished with a non-return valve, (72) Fig. 4 (not shown), and filter (74). The port 20 may have a pressure-relief valve (21). The vanes may have pivoted spring-loaded slippers 40.
