Abstract
1479928 Tufting machine drive SINGER CO 31 Aug 1974 38139/74 Heading DIG In a tufting machine which uses gearing units which are adjustable only when in motion, the speed of the yarn feed rollers 50 is altered by first stopping the main motor 24 and then starting an auxilliary motor 130 which drives the drive shaft 60 in the reverse direction, one way clutches 138 and 140, 142, 144 preventing the reverse movement from being transmitted to either the main motor or to the yarn feed rollers. The drive cones in the gearing units 68, 70, 72 may then be adjusted with the tufting operation suspended. Two banks or sets of yarn feed rollers 50 are disclosed. with each roller in a bank rotating at a different speed to the other two rollers in that bank, but being coupled to a corresponding roller in the other bank by drives 118, 124 and 130 respectively.
