Abstract
1482128 Charging metered catalyst EXXON RESEARCH & ENG CO 27 Sept 1974 42116/ 74 Heading BIF Apparatus for adding solid particles (e.g. of catalyst) to a process unit (e.g. a cat-cracking unit) comprises a main vessel for containing the particles, a metering vessel, a transfer line for transfer of particles from the main vessel to the metering vessel, a gas line for fluidising the particles in the metering vessel, valve means controlling withdrawal of particles from the metering vessel for transfer to the process unit, and means for measuring and recording the pressure differential across the fluidised bed so that the quantity of particles added to the process may be determined. As shown, the metering vessel 101 is a vertical standpipe within the main vessel 100. Catalyst is admitted by valve 104 to line 102 where it is conveyed by gas to the top of the measuring vessel. Further gas introduced at 109 fluidises the contents of vessel 101. Catalyst is removed from vessel 101 by lines 110, 111 and fed to the regenerator of the cat-cracking unit. Recorder 114 measures the pressure differential and thence the amount of catalyst in vessel 101. In another embodiment (Figure 1, not shown) the metering vessel is quite separate from the main vessel.
