Abstract
1486906 Mineral-mining installations; roof supports C V PEAKE 28 Aug 1975 [7 Sept 1974] 39148/74 Headings E1F and E1P In a longwall, mineral-mining installation in which a mineral-cutting machine 12 is traversed along a mineral face 11 past self advanceable roof supports arranged side by side along the face with a face conveyor 35 extending along the face through the roof supports, each roof support comprises a base 25 having a flat top for carrying the conveyor 35, at least one substantially vertical by extending, hydraulically actuable prop 28 mounted on the base adjacent the face edge thereof, a plate like shield 30 hinged at a lower end about a horizontal axis 30a to the base at the goaf side thereof and pivotally connected to the prop or props, the shield being for supporting the mine roof when the prop or props is or are in an extended state, and a hydraulically actuable ram 36 connected between the base and the convevor 35 for use in advancing the support. Preferably a roof support 31 is pivoted on the shield at a position spaced from the prop or props. A ramp 26 may be provided at the face side of each roof support to scoop cut mineral up onto the flat top of the base of each support as the support is advanced relative to the conveyor by the ram 36. A further ramp 37 can be provided at the face side of the conveyor for scooping mineral loaded up onto the base onto the conveyor as the conveyor is advanced relative to the supports by operation of the rams 36 of the supports. A guide channel 37 and a complementarv shoe 18 are provided one on each of the roof supports and the other on the cutting machine for guidance of the machine when it traverses a face.
