Abstract

1503230 Ozonizers MOSKOV GOSUDARST UNIVERSITET IM M V LOMONOSOVA 26 July 1975 31395/75 Heading H5H An ozonizer has a housing 2, demountable coaxial tubular electrodes 3, 5 defining a discharge chamber 8, inner electrode 5 having a dielectric coating 38 and outer electrode 3 defining with housing 2 a cooling fluid jacket, the inner electrode being supplied with cooling fluid via a pipe 44, having a closed end and apertures 51 adjacent, that extend coaxially through the electrode 5 to a position adjacent its closed end, the electrodes being held coaxial by a stud 53 engaged in a journal 23. The top end of the supply pipe is centred in the electrode 5 via a tee-piece 43, cooling water discharging through the side branch at 48, electrode extension 39 screwing into the tee-piece at 42. Lower end of pipe 44 is centred in electrode 5 by plug 52, stud 54 and bush 52. Electrode 3 and jacket 2 are welded to flanges 6, 7 having cooling fluid inlets and outlets 15, 16. Bottom of the ozonizer is closed by cup 19 having flange 20 that carries ozonized gas outlet 21 and aligning circular protuberance 22. Member 23 in cup 19 has cavity 24 that surrounds nut 57 on stud 54 to centre the lower end of electrode 5 relative to electrode 3. Collar 25 has a lower flange 27 with inlet 31 for reagent gas on a circular protuberance 30 to locate the collar relative to flange 6. Upper flange 26 and cover 33 have aligned bores to receive insulating sleeve I and counter bores to receive flange 36 thereby to support and locate the upper end of electrode 5, via its extension 36. Electrode 5 and extension 36 abut at a flange 40 of extension 39. A plurality of such devices may be connected in parallel to the cooling fluid supply and discharge pipe-lines and to reagent gas (air or oxygen) supply lines and discharge lines (Figs. 2, 3, not shown). Throttles (66) ensure even distribution of fluids. Pipe-lines connected to high voltage (inner) electrodes are made of non-conducting material. Fig. 4 shows an arrangement of seven such “inner”, high voltage electrodes 5 in a casing having a single collar 71, cover 72, base cup 70. Electrodes 5 are secured to cover 72 by individual circular plates 73. Both surfaces defining the discharge cavity(ies) may be dielectric coated 38, Fig. 1.
