Abstract
1506192 Continuous thread winding ETUDES ET FABRICATIONS 1 June 1976 [29 May 1975] 22549/76 Heading D1J This invention relates to a thread winding process and apparatus of the kind in which when one take-up reel is fully wound the thread being wound is transferred to an empty reel, the two reels being preferably in parallel side-by-side relationship. According to the invention there is an annulus 1, 2 supporting and rotating with each take-up reel, a single peripheral clamp member 7, 8 on each annulus, fixed anvils 14, 15 one for each annulus to cut the thread when a takeup reel has been filled to capacity, the switching-over of the thread from a filled reel to an empty reel being initiated after the detection of a predetermined angular position of the clamp member fixed on the annulus associated with the empty reel, this angular position being measured with respect to the anvil associated with the empty reel. The switching of the thread may be initiated as soon as the clamp member 8 has reached a predetermined angular position 8a situated down-stream from the anvil 15. A detector 17, Fig. 2, determines when the clamp member 8 has reached position 8a and the thread being wound is then transferred from the full reel to the empty reel so as to be caught by the clamp member 8 before the clamp member 8 again passes the anvil 15, preferably before the clamp member 8 reaches a maximal angular position represented by 8b in Fig. 1. The angle B is preferably about 15 degrees. Immediately after the gripping of the thread by the clamp member 8, the thread is cut by the anvil 15 and the filling of the new reel 9 begins. The detector 17 may be means responsive to a mark, blade or opening 22 rotating with the annulus 2. The detector may be inductive, capacitive, electromagnetic or mechanical. Similar apparatus is associated with the annulus 1. The invention reduces the risk of the thread coming into an abutting engagement with the free end of the clamp member associated with the next reel to be wound.
