Abstract
1511934 Camera with electronic flash WEST ELECTRIC CO Ltd 12 April 1976 [17 April 1975] 14854/76 Heading G2A A camera has an electronic flash circuit and a selector switch 1 which: (a) in a first position turns off the flash circuit and sets an aperture appropriate to a daylight exposure (b) in a second position turns on the circuit and sets an aperture appropriate to close subjects (c) in a third position turns on the circuit and sets an aperture appropriate to distant subjects. Preferably a neon tube 63 indicates which mode has been selected and whether the flash supply capacitor 56 is fully charged. The tube 63 is visible in the view-finder and is also externally visible via a prism (37), Fig. 3 (not shown). In the embodiment described, the same aperture is set in modes (a) and (b). As shown, (a) in the first position, shown in Fig. 6A, a diaphragm opening 7 is operative, switch contacts A and B are bridged to disconnect battery 54 and switch contacts A’ and B’ are bridged to short out indicator tube 63 (b) in the second position of the switch 1, the switch slider 19 is moved to the right. Diaphragm opening 7 is still operative, but contacts B and C are bridged to connect in battery 54 and contacts B’ and C’ are bridged to connect in tube 63. When capacitor 56 is charged tube 63 is turned on (c) in the third position of the switch 1, the slider 19 is moved further to the right. This pivots the diaphragm vane 6 out of the exposure path to provide a larger exposure aperture. Contacts C and D are bridged to connect in battery 54 and contacts C’ and D’ are bridged to connect a capacitor 64 in parallel with tube 63. When capacitor 56 is charged, capacitor 64 repeatedly charges through a resistor 62 and discharges through tube 63, causing tube 63 to flash.
