Abstract

1517392 Moulding sand ONADA CEMENT CO Ltd 26 Aug 1975 [30 Aug 1974 (2)] 35161/75 Heading C3N A moulding sand mixture comprises per 100 parts by weight of moulding sand, (a) 2-20 parts by weight of a rapid hardening cement selected from a calcium aluminate containing rapid hardening cement, a calcium haloaluminate rapid hardening cement and mixtures thereof; (b) 3-15 parts by weight of water; (c) as rapid hardening components, 0À01-1À0 parts by weight of a polymeric water holding agent or 0À03-2À0 parts by weight of a polymeric water reducing agent or of a polycyclic aromatic sulphonic acid salt, wherein the said polymeric water holding agent is a methylcellulose, a polyvinyl alcohol, an alginic acid, a sodium alginate, a polyethylene oxide or a water-soluble melamine resin, and the said polymeric water reducing agent is a naphthalenesulphonic acid-formalin condensation product, an alkyl naphthalene sulphonic acidformalin condensation product, an alkyl naphthalene sulphonic acid-naphthalene sulphonic acid-formalin copoly-condensate, a high polycondensate salt of an alkyl-aldehyde and a creosote oil, fractionated at a boiling point of 200-315‹ C. wherein the number of naphthalene rings in the said naphthalene-containing condensation products is more than 5; and (d) 0À01-3À0 parts by weight of quicklime or slaked lime. The moulding sand mixture may also contain 0À01-1À0% by weight of a bench life controlling agent selected from citric acid, sodium citrate, sodium gluconate, diketogluconic acid, tartaric acid, adipic acid, boric acid, sodium borate, hemihydrate gypsum, dihydrate gypsum or sodium or potassium carbonate, sulphate or nitrate. The calcium aluminate containing rapid hardening cement may be prepared by a number of specified procedures and may contain an amorphous glass or crystals of calcium aluminate.
