Abstract

1522369 Plate heat exchangers A PV V CO Ltd 23 Aug 1976 [10 Sept 1975] 37283/75 Heading F4S A heat exchanger comprises a pack of plates 17-23 apertured at corners, associated gaskets, and discs 1, 2, 3 and 13, 14, 15. Flow of two liquids through the heat exchanger is as indicated at A and B. Plates 17 and 23 have an aperture at each corner but, to guide the flows as indicated, some of the other plate corners are unapertured. The unapertured corners are reinforced by the discs, e.g. each disc being attached to one of its adjacent plates by welding. The spaces between plates 19-20 and 20-21 are unused for flow of liquid. As shown each of liquids A and B makes two passes through the heat exchanger. Considering flow of liquid A, the changeover between passes thereof is obtained by the group of four plates 18-21 which are generally similar to the other plates in the pack but have unapertured top left corners as viewed in Fig. 1 with the reinforcing discs 1-3 therebetween. The discs are isolated from the flows of the liquids, e.g. see Fig. 2. Similarly, for liquid B, changeover between two passes is obtained by the group of four plates 19-22 which have unapertured top right corners. The arrangement is such that for each of the groups of four plates 18-21 and 19-22 the central one of the three flow spaces defined therebetween is unused for flow of liquid. The plates of the pack may have crossing and abutting corrugations. Specifications 1,346,311 and 1,207,016 are referred to.
