Abstract

1523137 Preparing electro-photographic members XEROX CORP 24 Oct 1975 [4 Dec 1974] 43764/75 Heading G2C Electro-photographic members are prepared by dispersing a photo-conductive pigment in a solution of a charge transport material (CTM) and, if necessary, an inert binder, or an insulating polymer, coating the dispersion on a grounded conductive support, exposing the coating to a common discharge or high intensity D.C. field without contacting its surface with an electrode thus depositing the photo-conductive pigment with some CTM or insulating polymer as a first layer and the remainder of the charge transport material or insulating polymer as a second layer on the support. Alternatively, a non-inherent support may be used and the two layers formed may be stripped off this support and applied to a conductive support, the photo-conductive layer being either the upper or lower layer. Specified photo-conductors are Se, CdSe, CdSSe, PbO, phthalocyanines, indigoids, parylenes, quincridones and bis-benzinidazoles. Specified CTM’s are trinitrofluorenone (TNF) in a binder, polyvinyl carbazole (PVK), PVK/TNF 4:1 mix, triphenylamine in a binder, and other organic photo-conductors in a binder or polyvinylpyrene, -tetraphene, -tetracene or -perylene. Specified insulating polymers are polycarbonates, polyesters, cellulose acetate or acrylic resins. The preferred support is Al with an Al 2 O 3 barrier layer or conductive glass.
