Abstract
1525660 Line-by-line photocopying INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 15 Dec 1976 [28 Jan 1976] 52383/76 Heading G2A Means for converting a continuous rotary drive for a photo-conductive drum into a reciprocatory rotary drive, in the form of a pulley, for the scanning means of a line-by-line photocopier comprises a continuously rotating drive member, a coaxial idler member driven in the opposite direction through the medium of two spaced intermediate rotary fixed-axis elements (each in contact with the idler and drive members), and a pulley-driving pin transported along fixed laterally-spaced oppositedirection arcuate paths defined by the drive and idler members, resp., and fixed connecting arcuate paths defined by the rotary elements. The pin is accommodated in a transverse slot in the pulley enabling movement in either laterally-spaced arcuate paths. The complete scanning cycle may be produced during two rotations of the drum, when the drive and idler members have the same diameter Figs. 3-6 (not shown) or during one rotation of the drum, when the diameter of the idler member is less Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown). In the former case, as shown, pin 72 (driving pulley 32) is integral with a lead chain 64 which passes round rotary elements 67 and 68 and mates with surface patterns on drive and idler members 53 and 66, resp. In another form Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), the bead chain is dispensed with and the pin is transported in successive hollows in the members and elements with the aid of guide members. The reciprocatory pulley may drive carriages for full and half rate mirrors of an optical scanning system Figs. 1 and 2.
