Abstract
1528433 Measuring flow-rate electrically SINGER CO 2 March 1977 [27 Oct 1976] 08818/77 Heading G I N Each pulse of a pulse train produced by a fluid flowmeter triggers a burst generator to produce a predetermined number of pulses corresponding to a base temperature, this number being modified in accordance with the temperature of the fluid as measured by a thermistor. As shown (Fig. 1), the temperature of fluid in a pipe 12 is sensed by a thermistor 11 which, with resistor 15 and capacitor 16, determines the pulse width output F from a monostable MV 17, to make it inversely proportional to absolute temperature. Each pulse A from a flowmeter 14 is cleaned at 18 and its trailing edge triggers a MV 39 to produce a pulse C whose leading edge closes switch 20 to supply power for a predetermined limited period to MV 17 and to remove an inhibit from clockpulse generator 23, the trailing edge of pulse C triggering MV 17 to open gate 25 for one pulse F. The number of clockpulses G passed by gate 25 is inversely proportional to the fluid temperature, and by subtracting this from a predetermined initial count in counter 27, produces a number N representing the absolute temperature of the fluid. A burst generator 30 is pre-set to produce a predetermined number of pulses for each pulse F corresponding to unit volume at a given base temperature. This is divided at 34 by N to give a corrected flow-rate and totalled at 36 to give the volume flow. The system restricts the power taken by the apparatus to the periods when switch 20 is closed.
