Description
(54) METHOD AND EQUIPMENT FOR ADJUSTMENT ()F THE SETTING OF A JAW CRUSIIER
(71) We, RAUMA REPOLA OY a
Finnish Corporation of Lokomon Tehtaat.
PL 306-607, 33101 Tampere 10, Finland do hereby declare the invention, for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us. and the method by which it is to be performed.
to be particularly described in and hv the following statement:
This invention relates to the adjustment of the swing jaws of jaw crushers.
It is well known in jaw crushers to locate the swing jaw by a toggle whose effective length can be adjusted by removing or inserting adjusting shims between the toggle and the crusher frame. To carrv out adjust- ment of the shims. it is necessary to force the swing jaw away from the shims to give clearance between the toggle and the shims.
This is most often done by a mechanical or hydraulic drive operating either on the toggle itself or on a rod speciallv provided for the purpose. Such arrangements are complex in construction and cumbersome to operate.
It is an object of the present invention to provide in a jaw crusher means for adjusting such shims, which means are simple both in construction and operation.
The invention accordingly provides a jaw crusher including a frame. a swing jaw, a toggle interconnecting the swing jaw and the frame, means for locating adjusting shims between the toggle and the frame. a return spring rod extending from the swing jaw. a return spring acting between the return spring rod and the frame, and adjusting means for relieving the load on the toggle while the setting of the latter is adjusted by the insertion or removal of shims. said adjusting means comprising an adjusting component arranged around the return spring rod. one end of the adjusting compo- nent serving as an abutment for the return spring. an adjusting nut engaged in a screw thread on the return spring rod and bearing on said one end of the adjusting component.
a thrust member carried by the other end of the adjusting component. and an abutmcnt on the frame arranged to engage said thrust member er when the adjusting nut is moved by a sufficient distance in one direction where- bv. when engagement occurs between said thrust member and said abutment. further movement of the adjusting nut in said one direction forces the return spring rod to wards the swine law to unload the togele to permit adjustment of the shims to be carried out,
Embodiments of the present invention will now he described. by way of example.
with reference to the accompanying drawings. in which:
Figure 1 is a sectional side elevation of a jaw crusher embodying the invention;
Figure 2 illustrates part of the apparatus of Figure I to an enlarged scale: and
Figure 3 shows a modification ot the embodiment of Figures 1 and 2.
As shown in Figure 1, a toggle 4 with bearings 5 and 6 is placed between the swing jaw 3 and the frame of the crusher. Shims 9 can be positioned behind the toggle 4 and its bearing 6 to tix the p)siti()n of the toggle at a desired setting.
A return force ior the swing jaw ; is transmitted thereto by a return spring rod 7.
The end of the rod 7 is threaded to receive an adjusting nut 10. The nut l() engagcs an adjusting component 11 via bearings 14 and 15. The adjusting component 11 includes a flange 12 for engaging the return spring 8 and a tubular extension 13 which surrounds the return spring rod 7. the end of the extension 12 nearer the swing jaw A is formed into a flange which carries a thrust member 16
The invention permits the setting ot the swine jaw 3 to be adjusted by inserting or removing shims 9 in a simple manner, as will now be described.
When it is desired to make an adjustment.
the nut 10 is turned to move it away from the swing jaw 3. After some movement the thrust member 16 engages a collar 17 secured to the frame of the crusher. Thus the position of the adjusting component 11 becomes fixed. Continued rotation of the nut 10 causes the rod 7 to be forced to the left as seen in the drawings. The rod 7 thus acts as a push rod or auxiliarv toggle and unloads the toggle 4 to allow shims to be inserted or removed.
It is also possible by use of the adjusting nut 10 to push the swing jaw 3 sufficientlv forward that the toggle 4 may be replaced.
After the required adjustment has been made, the nut 10 is rotated in the opposite direction until the thrust member 16 is disengaged from the collar 17 bv a suitable distance, the rod 7 then functioning again as a return spring rod. A measuring rod 18 is provided adjacent the adjusting component 11 so that the latter may be retuned accurately to a given position to obtain a given spring force. A locking nut 21 (Figure 1) is provided to prevent inadvertent unwinding of the adjusting nut 10.
In the modification illustrated in Figure 3,
the thrust member 16 may be engaged by
hydraulic rams 19 operated by a hand pump
20 to unload the spring 8 before the nut 10 is
rotated, thus making such rotation easier.
This is particularly advantageous with large
crushers. An additional advantage of this
modification is that after adjustment the
apparatus automatically returns to the cor
rect spring force.
The means of adjustment in the embodiments described ensures correct adjustment of the return force. Moreover. since the adjustment of the toggle setting and that of the return force are carried out at the same position and by means of the same machine elements the number of operations required in carrying out an adjustment is less than with known svstems where there is a separate means for the adjustment of the return spring.
The position of the return spring rod in the embodiments described is such that adjustment requires only a small amount ot power and is possible in most cases by hand power only. because in the adjustment position the return spring does not impose a load on the parts involved in the adjustmentor oppose movement of the swing iaw.
WHAT WE CLAIM IS:
1. A jaw crusher including a frame. a swing jaw. a toggle interconnecting the swing jaw and the frame. means for locating adjusting shims between the toggle and the frame, a return spring rod extending from the swing jaw, a return spring acting between the return spring rod and the frame, and adjusting means for relieving the load on the toggle while the setting of the latter is adjusted by the insertion or removal of shims. said adjusting means comprising an adjusting component arranged around the return spring rod. one end of the adjusting component serving as an abutment for the return spring. an adjusting nut engaged in a screw thread on the return spring rod and bearing on said one end of the adjusting component, a thrust member carried by the other end of the adjusting component. and an abutment on the frame arranged to engage said thrust member when the adjust- inc nut is moved by a sufficient distance in one direction wherebv. when engagement occurs between said thrust member and said abutment. further movement of the adjusting nut in said one direction forces the return spring rod towards the swing jaw to unload the toggle to permit adjustment of the shims to he carried out.
‘. A jaw crusher according to claim 1.
further including a hydraulic ram device arranged to act between the thrust member and the abutment for relieving the return sprine force from the adjustment nut to facilitate turning of the latter.
A. A jaw crusher including adjustment means substantially as hereinbefore described with reference Figures 1 and 2, or
Figures 1 and 2 modified by Figure 3, of the accompanying drawings.
