Generating by reduction of pressures of heated water.-In an apparatus for vaporizing liquids, particularly for evaporating brine or other impure water in producing distilled water for boilerfeed &c., a heating-agent such as steam or flue gases is passed through an inlet 2 on to the outside of a group of tubes 3 through which the liquid to be evaporated is forced by a pump 8. The heated liquid is sprayed through a pipe 11 above the surface of the liquid in the chamber 12. The vapour formed rises through baffles 13 to an outlet 14. A regulating-valve 4 on the pipe 11 retains sufficient pressure in the tubes 3 to prevent evaporation and consequent formation of scale therein. Residual liquid is withdrawn from the chamber 12 by a pipe 15 and recirculated by the pump 8. A continuous supply of fresh liquid and withdrawal of concentrated residual liquid in suitable proportions are maintained by pumps 20, 21 of different capacity mounted on the same shaft and operated by a motor 22. The proportions of liquid supplied and withdrawn may be varied by a by-pass 23, which enables liquid from the supply pump to pass to the withdrawal pump. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also that the motor 22 may be controlled automaticall to maintain a definite level of liquid in the chamber 12. A separate float-controlled pump for the supply and separate regulator for withdrawing residual liquid may be used. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
