Abstract
10,067. Marks, E. C. R., [McClean Arms and Ordnance Co.]. May 8, 1908. Breech actions, sliding breech-block.-Relates to firing-mechanism for gas-operated automatic guns, of the kind described in Specification 10,021/08, [Class 92, Ordnance &c.], and consists (1) in mounting the sear upon a spring support which permits a limited longitudinal movement when the sear engages the forwardly – moving breech mechanism ; and (2) in a special method of mounting a change-fire disk of the kind described in Specification 5099/00. The method of mounting the sear 52 is shown in Fig. 1, and comprises a spring-pressed plunger 54 formed with a socket 53 which receives the forward end of the sear. A pin 55<1> limits the longitudinal movements of the sear, the rear end of which is supported by a spring 56. The trigger 58 is hung upon a pin 59 and its action is controlled by the co-operation of a pin 78 with slots 79, 80, 81 and 82 in the change-fire disk 63, so that the gun may be adjusted to fire single shots or automatically, with or without the necessity for manually retaining the pull on the trigger; or the gun may be locked against firing. The disk is mounted in a recess 64, Fig. 5, in the breechframe 2, and is retained by a spring 76 and a plate 73. The plate is rotatable so that recesses in its edge may be brought opposite the heads of retaining-screws 74 when the device is to be taken apart. When the nature of the fire is to be changed, the disk 63 is moved laterally against the spring 76 to disengage the triggerpin 78, and is then rotated by a handle 67 to engage a different slot with the pin.
