Spring wheels with solid elastic tyre held between fixed and transversely-movable rings to give resiliency.-An elastic tyre consisting of a rigid core a and a casing of india-rubber h or other material is supported at its sides by two rings converging towards the wheel centre, one of which f, Fig. 1, is rigidly held by two sets of tension spokes h, i, the other e being movable outwardly and connected by spokes l to a ring m mounted on a spherical or saucerlike boss n adjustably mounted on the hub. In the twin form shown in Fig. 2, the two rigidly-supported rings f are integral with a web p and the hub k. The centre of the circle about which the movable ring oscillates coincides with the centre of the circle formed by the median section of the boss n. The core a is a thin steel tube of circular, oval, or like section, or a metal or wooden ring.
