Abstract
16,096. Sharp, J. R. K. July 9. Delivery, stopping.- When a thread breaks in a spinning-machine, the circuit of an electromagnet is closed by a feeler normally withheld by the intact thread, a lever being thereby released and operated by a weight to remove the roving to a groove in one of the feed-rolls and to move the roving longitudinally to withdraw it from the bite of the drawing-rolls. A feeler 18, Fig. 6, is lightly pressed by a spring 23 against the yarn and, upon breakage, is moved by the spring to close the circuit of an electro-magnet 42, Fig. 4. This attracts a lever 43 and withdraws a spring- bolt 39 from a lever 31, which is moved sideways by a spring to remove the roving into a groove of the feed-rolls 5, 6, and, in consequence of the slackening of the roving, a roll 60, around which the roving passes, is rotated by a spring, so that hackle pins 76 thereon engage the roving and withdraw it from the bite of the drawing-rolls. The movement of the lever 31 breaks the circuit of the electromagnets. During piecing, the feeler is retained by a spring-stop 24 in an inoperative position. In a modification, the roll 60 is dispensed with, the roving being withdrawn from the drawing- rolls by the swinging of the lever that moves it into the groove of the feed-rolls. The lever is normally held by means of the armature of the electro – magnet without the intervention of a spring bolt. The feeler is operated by a coil-spring and is connected with a short shaft carrying two projections or arms, which serve to close the circuit of the electro-magnet and to lock the feeler during piecing respectively
