Abstract

2299. Pelterie, R. Esnault-. Feb. 12, 1914, [Convention date] Springs, arrangement of, and mounting undercarriages on.-In springs of the kind described in Specification 27,262/13, the two arms are curved and are assembled on a wedgeshaped block and disposed so as to resemble more nearly the springs usually employed. Fig. 2 shows a spring having two curved arms a, a’ secured to a block c<2> pivoted to the chassis at g<2>. The shorter arm a<1> is pivotally or slidably connected to an arm i<2>, which is pivoted on, or rigidly secured to the axle, and the longer arm a is connected to the chassis through a link, sliding shoe, or roller. The longer arm may extend above the axle instead of below. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a) comprises also the following features. Two double arm springs are shaped and arranged as shown in Fig. 1 (Cancelled) so as to resemble an ordinary elliptic spring, the use of two springs also enabling lighter springs to be used. Fig. 10 (Cancelled) shows a spring having divergent curved arms of which the upper arm bears against a roller on a spring l<4> secured to the chassis. Fig. 11 (Cancelled) shows a modified construction of spring in which the upper branch a is extended beyond the assembling block c<2>, or the block c<2> may be extended to bring the pivot g<2> some distance beyond the centre of gravity of the spring. Fig. 9 (Cancelled) shows a spring with both branches beneath the axle, helical springs l<3>, m<3> or blade springs being interposed between the chassis and the pivot g<2> and between the chassis and the end of the long arm a. A helical or blade spring may also be interposed between the axle and the short arm a’. Springs of the kind described in the above-mentioned Specification are concealed by arranging them transversely across the rear and within the chassis frame, or by arranging them at an angle across the rear corners of the chassis. Fig. 2 (Cancelled) shows, in plan, two parallel transverselyarranged springs pivoted at g<3> to the chassis, their upper arms bearing against rollers h<2> on the chassis, and their lower arms being linked to extensions l<2> of the distance-rods m<2>. Since the extensions l<2> are of different lengths, the strength of the springs is varied accordingly. Springs arranged across the corners of the chassis have their pivots arranged near the centre of a cross-piece and the ends of the springs diverge towards the ends of the axle. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
