Abstract

197,879. Shaw, J. W. Aug. 12, 1922. Combining sheet material.-A number of layers of carded cotton or cotton waste, either naturally peculiarly absorbent, or rendered so by a degreasing or like process, are deposited from carding machines b on a travelling apron c, which delivers them on to a second apron d passing through a trough f containing liquid size &c., over vacuum chests g for removing superfluous liquid, and under a pressure roller h. The material is then carried by a third apron i between pressure rollers j, j and passes to a number of steam drying-drums k. The size may be made with farina, flour, or gelatine. Rubber solution may also be used, or, in some, cases, plain water.
